KPP owns 62 MW of the 650-MW, combined-cycle Dogwood Energy Facility near Kansas City, Missouri. The KPP acquired 42 MW in 2012 and another 20 MW in 2015.

In 2022, KPP brought a new battery storage facility into service. Located in the member City of Minneapolis, the battery facility can store 4.7 MWh and discharge up to 1 MW per hour of energy. Solomon is the first battery storage project to be offered in the Southwest Power Pool Integrated Market.

Transmission over all of KPP member entities and transmission facilities is administered by the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). Transmission service under the SPP tariff allows KPP to obtain generation service from suppliers throughout a 14-state region in the central US, from the panhandle of Texas to the Canadian border, with no additional cost.

KPP MEMBER GENERATION

Eleven KPP member public power utilities operate and maintain 46 generating units with a combined proven capacity of 183,242 kilowatts. Most of the generating units are internal combustion engines. However, two of our member utilities also operate steam turbines and simple cycle gas turbine generators. Most of the internal combustion units are dual-fuel and can run on either diesel oil or natural gas.
